  REPAIRING

Repairing quilts is a skill based on considerable experience and an understanding of the various materials, forms of construction and stitches used in making quilts.

Planning repair work involves

  • Assessing the problem(s) and extent of the damage
  • Estimating the cost of time and materials required
  • Selecting and sourcing replacement material(s)
  • Carefully removing damaged sections
  • Replacing material where necessary
  • Quilting the repaired area to match existing quilt stitching

Evident damage must be repaired before a quilt will be accepted for dry cleaning.
Repair work may be necessary after cleaning when damage due to aging sometimes becomes apparent.
