QUILTCARE
  CLEANING

Cleaning has to be done with care to avoid damaging the quilt.

The steps in cleaning are

  • Study the quilt in detail, and establish the materials used in making it
  • Note any existing damage or wear
  • Establish the reason for cleaning, and note any marks or spots which will require special treatment
  • Decide on the method of cleaning - dry, wet, machine, etc.
  • Decide on the method of drying - open air or tumble dryer
  • Agree cleaning treatment with the owner/client
  • Estimate cost of cleaning
  • Clean and dry, then inpect in detail to ensure a satisfactory result
Recently created quilts made from cotton and man-made fibres can often be washed in a washing machine satisfactorily and without damage. However, it is essential to assess any quilt with care because cleaning treatment can lead to dye problems and colour running.
